Winning films 2006

Over 200 projects were submitted for the Digital Shorts Scheme 2006 in the ‘Long Shots’, ‘Close Ups’ and the new ‘One Minute Wonder’ animation categories. In all 30 applicants were shortlisted in the ‘Long Shots’ and ‘Close Up’ strands, selected to re-present their projects after completing a two-day development workshop with industry expert Simon van den Borgh and one-to-one mentoring sessions with Lucy Guard, Pippa Brill and Miranda Robinson. Further animation workshops were run in Brighton for the shortlisted One Minute Wonder animation projects, run in conjunction with Brighton’s Final Cut, Arts Council South East and Awards for All.

After much debating, 6 "Long Shots" (up to 9 minutes) 5 "Close Ups" (up to 1 minute) and 8 ‘One Minute Wonder’ animation projects were selected. We look forward to seeing the completed shorts in April 07!

Winning Films 2005

Over 200 projects were submitted for the Digital Shorts Scheme 2005. 30 shortlisted applicants were selected to re-present their projects after completing a two-day development workshop with industry expert Carl Schoenfeld and one-to-one mentoring sessions with Pippa Brill, Alex Finbow and animation experts Wrench & Franks. Of these, 20 applicants were then selected to pitch their re-presented material to Screen South and a panel of industry professionals.

After much careful consideration, 5 "Long Shots" (5-10 minutes each) and 5 "Close Ups" (1-3 minutes each) were selected. Currently in post production we look forward to seeing to the completed shorts in April 06.

Little Things
Four-year old Chloe sees a man shoplifting and asks her mum if she too can “shop like the man.” Mum-distracted and on the phone – agrees, only aware of what has been going on when a Security Guard stops them at the check-out. The Security Guard asks Chloe to identify the man she was copying, but preferring the dapper thief to the greasy Security Guard she pretends he has gone. As Chloe and embarrassed mum leave the store, the thief drops a chocolate bar from his coat as a reward for Chloe’s help.
