UK Film Council statement on BAFTA Film Awards
News release 22/02/2010
John Woodward, Chief Executive Officer of the UK Film Council:
"British creative excellence has been recognised across the board at this year's BAFTAs, from the UK Film Council-backed
Fish Tank
(Outstanding British Film), to Colin Firth and Carey Mulligan (Best Actor and Actress awards), and Duncan Jones for his debut directorial performance (
Moon
). Congratulations to all these winners, as well as the many others, like British cinematographer Barry Ackroyd and sound mixer Ray Beckett for their work on the winner of Best Film,
The Hurt Locker
; Sandy Powell and Jenny Shircore for
The Young Victoria
(Costume and Make-up awards); UK Film Council-backed
I Do Air
and
Mother of Many
(Best Short Film and Best Short Animation); and recognition for Joe Dunton who has been synonymous with British film production for decades. And of course the recognition of Vanessa Redgrave’s lifetime commitment to and achievement in British film. Taken together, these awards are living proof of the underlying strength of British talent that is in high demand across the world."
