Soda Pictures announce new British cinema initiative
Soda Pictures announce new British cinema initiative
News release 25/02/2010
Film distributor
Soda Pictures
has announced a new touring programme called
New British Cinema Quarterly
(NBCQ). NBCQ will showcase the work of four British filmmakers with distinctive and original films selected from the UK’s major film festivals. A new film will screen each quarter at a minimum of 15 partner venues across the UK accompanied by a Q&A from the director or associated talent.
Each film will be released individually on DVD and at the end of the year all will be included in a box set alongside the New British Cinema Annual: a publication of opinions and analysis encompassing the full spectrum of British Cinema in 2010.
The films are:
1234
directed by Giles Borg;
NO GREATER LOVE
directed by Michael Whyte;
SKELETONS
directed by Nick Whitfield and a final film to be selected from this year’s forthcoming festivals.
1234
is the first film in the programme and will launch NBCQ at the Glasgow Film Festival on February 24th before beginning its nationwide tour.
The programme has been developed with exhibition partners including Curzon Cinemas, City Screen andthe ICO, digital cinema encoders Motion Picture Solutions and design and media partner, Church ofLondon who also produce the Little White Lies magazine.
Managing Director of Soda Pictures, Edward Fletcher devised the programme to celebrate Britain’s filmcraft and encourage future filmmakers around the UK to watch British films and hear directly from the talentbehind the camera. He commented, “We have to address the lack of distribution opportunities for Britishfilms and advances in digital distribution and exhibition have made a programme like this possible. Our aimis to work with our venue partners to engage their local creative community and incentivise them throughthe chance to engage with those who have ‘done it’. There will be more exciting additions to thisprogramme as it develops, so watch this space”
Alison Gardner, Co-Director of Glasgow Film Festival, said “We are delighted to be hosting the launch of this new initiative at Glasgow Film Festival. Soda Pictures is ahead of the game in terms of releasing qualityBritish product and supporting British talent. This approach matches the Glasgow Film Festival's overall aim of providing opportunities for film audiences to watch a more diverse range of films.”
