BRITISH
SHORT FILM ‘SICK’ TOPS CIAFF AWARDS
Debut Director MIKE RYMER has won two
top awards in the independent category of the 39th Canadian International Annual Film Festival.
The accolades for Best
Independent Film and Best
Scenario accompanied commendations for Cinematography, Concept,
Sound and Music, and Editing for the short film 'SICK'. They bring the film's
awards total to 16. The CIAFF contest began in 1969 and is defined by a judging
process with no preselection. The judges watch and critique every entry
received, before picking the overall winners.
'SICK' is an independent drama and a co-production by EgoProject Films and
Patchwork Productions. It was produced by Christine Hartland and directed by
Mike Rymer from a script that he developed while at the International Film
School Wales (a Skillset Screen Academy). The film explores issues of mental
health, namely anxiety and depression, is endorsed by Samaritans and was
largely funded by South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust Charitable
Funds. It was financially assisted by Film London and The London Borough of
Wandsworth, and enabled by Screen South and the RIFE lottery funding programme.
