| Mediabox is a fund set up to help young people have a positive voice in
the media. It offers disadvantaged 13-19 year olds across England the
opportunity to develop/produce creative media projects using film,
print, radio, games & interactive platforms. Mediabox enables the
voices of young people to be heard in ways which bring positive changes
to their lives & to the lives of their peers and communities. |
What sort of projects do Mediabox look for? - Creative project ideas that result in reproducible media products
- Outreach work engaging hard to reach Young People in media activity
- Projects that help to improve the portrayal of Young People in the media
- Projects that allow Young People to explore the issues that are important to them
- Appropriate training for Young People to enable them to be the authors of the work
- Effective marketing, distribution, publication, broadcast and exhibition of the work produced.
What sort of media can be used?
- Advertising (Campaigns on youth issues using mixed media)
- Digital Media (Photography; Digital imagery; Mixed media)
- Film & TV (Short films; TV programmes; Feature films)
- Print (Magazines; Comics; Illustrated books; Newspapers; Photojournalism)
- Radio (Speech-based programmes all genres including drama, docs, news and features; Setting up an RSL or online station; Community radio)
There are 2 types of grants available, Mid Mediabox – up to £20,000 and Big Mediabox – up to £40,000
The key focus of Mediabox is to give young people a voice and opportunities to explore issue and campaign based stories, to empower them to devise and lead media projects, to ensure young people gain a range of media-related and ‘soft’ skills, to enable young people to be creative, and to improve their portrayal in the media.
